<image:caption>The Marston house, located at 524 North Henry Street, was built in 1851 in the Greek revival style for Jeremiah T. Marston, who operated a store on State Street. The Marstons built a new house in the early 1870s near Lake Wingra. The house on Henry Street was the last residence of Chief Justice Edward G. Ryan, who died in 1880, and was then occupied by A.B. Van Cott. From 1909 to 1923, the house was used by the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. DKE raised the roof, added dormer windows, and glassed in the upper porch. From 1925 to around 1942 and again from 1946 it was used by the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity, until its demolition in 1962. (WHS Image ID 29743)</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Jarvis-Ward-Atwood octagon house, 121 West Wilson Street, built for Mr. Jarvis from red brick made at a kiln, owned by W.A.P. Morris, at the turn of Langdon Street. The brick for Governor Farwell's octagonal house also came from this kiln. The Jarvis house was so expensive to build, however, that it had to be mortgaged. Only three of the fourteen rooms in the house are four-sided. The house later had a spiral staircase from the first to the fourth floor, and had eighteen steps per flight. It was later remodeled and used as a headquarters for the Salvation Army. (WHS Image ID 37817)</image:caption>

<image:caption>Mr. and Mrs. Albert G. Zimmerman in their locomobile steamer in 1902. Zimmerman purchased the car in 1901 and claimed it was the first permanent automobile in the capital city. "Prof. Wood had one like it for experimental purposes," he wrote on the back of the photograph,"a month or two before, but he took it away with him to Baltimore that summer." The Zimmermans are seen on the Shorewood rustic bridge, a picturesque highlight of Lake Mendota Drive. The Park and Pleasure Drive created the drive a decade earlier for scenic excursions in horse-drawn vehicles. To prevent trouble with the horses, early autos and carriages used the pleasure drive on different days. (WHS Image ID 40837)</image:caption>

<image:caption>The third Wisconsin State Capitol after the unfinished South Wing collapsed on November 8, 1883. Defective workmanship and shoddy construction materials caused the nearly finished wing to collapse, killing six laborers and injuring twenty others. The accident created a scandal and provoked a public investigation. Frank Lloyd Wright was one of those who witnessed the collapse and he recalled it later in his autobiography, speaking of himself in the third person. (WHS Image ID 10480)</image:caption>

      <image:title>Georgia O'Keeffe - Painter, November 15, 1887-Mach 6, 1986</image:title>
<image:caption>Georgia Totto O'Keeffe was born in a farmhouse on a large dairy farm outside of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. By the age of 16, Georgia had 5 years of private art lessons at various schools in Wisconsin and Virginia. In 1902 her parents moved to Virginia and were joined by the children in 1903. Georgia managed to stay behind so she could graduate from Central High School. Her aunt Leonore Totto, a teacher, lived at 910 Spaight Street in 1904. After receiving her diploma in 1905, she for left Chicago to live with an aunt and attend the Art Institute of Chicago. She did not return to the Institute the following year after a bout with typhoid fever. Instead, in 1907 she enrolled at the Art Student League in New York City. Georgia O'Keeffe died March 6, 1986, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.</image:caption>
